Taking the stair out in pieces
The stair had to go so the floor layout could change. Smashing it in place would have loaded the slab underneath with shock and rubble. Gulf Cut cut the flights and the landing into pieces that could be carried off the floor.
The remaining structure, the walls beside the stair and the slab below, stayed in place.
The job was a Dubai alteration. The method was diamond cutting the flights and landing into pieces that could be carried out. The outcome was the stair removed, and the slab and walls beside it left in place.
Sequence
The crew worked from the top down, with each piece supported before it was freed.
- Flight and landing marked from the drawing
- Cuts sized for the lift off the floor
- Debris kept off the live areas
